SOURCE – THE BIBLE

• According to the believers, the Bible was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by over 40 different authors from all walks of life: shepherds, farmers, tent-makers, physicians, fishermen, priests, philosophers and kings.
• Many scholars concurred that Job is the oldest book in the Bible, written by an unknown Israelite about 1500 B.C. Others argue that the Pentateuch are the oldest books in the Bible, written between 1446 and 1406 B.C.
• The Old Testament is the first section of the Bible with 39 books, while the second section, called the New Testament, has 27.
• The author who contributed most in the Old Testament was Moses. He wrote the first five books of the Bible, referred to as the Pentateuch; the foundation of the Bible.
• Meanwhile, the Apostle Paul wrote 14 books of the New Testament, all originally written in Greek.
• The New Testament tells about the life of Jesus and the early days of Christianity, most notably Paul’s efforts to spread Jesus’ teaching.
• Johannes Gutenberg printed the Bible in 1454 A.D. He invented the “type mold” for the printing press. It was the first book ever printed.
• The longest book in the Bible is Psalms, while the shortest is 2 John.
• The longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9 while the shortest is John 11:35.

THE BIBLE STORIES

• Bible stories are the world’s most popular stories. Although there is no concrete number of stories in the Bible, more than 150 are known.
• There are about 84 popular stories in the Old Testament and 88 in the New Testament, not including 46 parables.
• In Biblical timeline, the approximate Creation Story was on 4000 B.C. until the Fall of Man (Adam and Eve Story).
• Around 2500 B.C. the Great Flood happened and some 400 years later, Job was born and the Tower of Babel was built and destroyed.
• The biblical patriarchs existed from 2091 B.C.; Abraham (2091 BC), Isaac (2066 BC) and Jacob (2006 BC).
• The story of Moses spanned from 1446 to 1406 BC (Exodus 20 to Deuteronomy 24).
• The stories of Israel’s kings spanned from 1110 BC-742 BC (1 Samuel to 2 Kings).
• The stories and appearances of the prophets began from the establishment of the kingdom until the Babylonian exile (1 Samuel to Nehemiah).
• Majority content of the New Testament is the Story of Jesus from Matthew to Acts (Year 1 to 33 AD).
• Stories of his prophets were expanded in the following gospel, majority of it were from Apostle Paul and finished by John’s Revelation in Patmos by 95 AD (Acts to Revelation).

BIBLE VALUES IN THE STORIES

• The morals in all of the stories in the Bible are summarized in many verses. The most well known source of values or moral of any Bible story is from Exodus 20:1-18, also known as the Ten Commandments.
• The outstanding values include reverence to the creator, to parents and neighbors. It also prohibits the commission of murder, theft, falsehood and infidelity.
• In Galatians 5:22-23, morals for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control were also provided.
• Values are also determined in 2 Peter 1:5-8 “…about every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”
• The Bible also warns us; ‘Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”’
• In Jesus’ sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-11), he taught about the blessings for those who do good, those who mourn and those who remain faithful.
• In verse 7, it says “blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
• The Old Testament also encourages people to live just and faithful lives by following the godly morals provided in the Book of Proverbs.
• Of many adages, Proverbs 16:18 talks about pride, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

THE BACKLASH OF DISOBEDIENCE

• Like all laws of the land, disobedience has many consequences. In our laws, killing is punished by imprisonment or death penalty. While spiritual disobedience comes with spiritual consequences.
• In Romans 2:12, it states that “All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.”
