I had the incredible opportunity to attend an EU-funded training programme in Singapore. The training which focused on Internal and External Communication, Public Relations and Crisis Communication was organized under the European Instrument for International Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC) and facilitated by the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN).It was a great platform to interact with industry professionals from diverse countries and to deepen my understanding of communication in the nuclear sector. The training covered a range of critical topics including: The international and EU regulatory framework for communication in the nuclear industry, Crisis communication strategies and practical regulations, enriched by real-world case studies, the pivotal role of communication in fostering a robust nuclear safety culture, and Effective stakeholder engagement and public communication during nuclear emergencies.One of the highlights was the series of practical discussions and business game sessions where we solved communication tasks in both normal and emergency scenarios, leveraging AI tools to enhance leadership skills in crisis management, risk assessment, and effective communication. This hands-on approach provided invaluable lessons and insights from the different participants, which largely provides critical information for our work at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Ghana (NRA).As part of the programme, we had a technical visit to a medical facility, further gaining practical knowledge that directly complemented our theoretical training. We also explored the incredible sights and sounds of Singapore, and enjoyed a beautiful dinner gala cruise. This served as a wonderful bonding and networking session outside the "classroom", resulting in lasting and useful partnerships.I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with leading experts like Kateryna Piliugina, Gabriel Lazaro Pavel, Camila Boix, and Tamas Pazmandi. A month ago on 3rd May 2024, I had the honour of being inducted as an Accredited Public Relations Professional (APR) by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana at the IPR Summit and Annual General Meeting at Rock City Hotel in Kwahu.This milestone represents the climax of a journey that began in 2021 when I set out to achieve APR certification. The path was filled with demanding studies, challenging exams, and countless long-day and late-night discussions with my incredible study mates. The friendships and partnerships forged during this time were invaluable, and I am deeply grateful to my colleagues who shared this journey with me – Akosua Kwafo Ogyiri, APR Norvan Acquah-Hayford, APR, Brigitte Ampah, APR and Barbara Dodoo-Arhin, APR. Your support and dedication to the cause made all the difference.As a Public Relations and Communications Professional at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Ghana , this accreditation is a significant professional milestone. It not only enhances my ability to effectively communicate and advocate for the critical work we do at the Authority, but also positions me to contribute more strategically to our organizational goals. I began the year in wonderful company, surrounded by positive vibes at the 4th edition of "The Constitution Day Lecture," hosted by OneGhana Movement in collaboration with UPSA School of Law.Beyond the impactful lecture eloquently delivered by Dr. Afari Gyan, the former Electoral Commissioner;connecting with "my people" provided me with a renewed sense of purpose and zeal for the year ahead.It was a timely reminder to keep surrounding myself with positive individuals who can support and guide me, enhancing my journey towards becoming a better version of myself each day.So dear someone, regardless of how the year started, remember to embrace the power of positive connections in this year.
